The purpose of an assessment wrapper ("exam wrappers" or "cognitive wrappers") is to foster metacognitive reflection before and after assessments and/or practice assessments. These one's are especially useful when doing practice exam sections with students as it helps to develop their self-regulated learning skills towards exam success.
Research indicates that using assessment wrappers is an effective way to increase student achievement and make their engagement with practice assessments more productive. These assessment wrappers utilise the 'self-regulation cycle' such that students plan, monitor, evaluate and regulate their approach to assessments.
This download includes a selection of five assessment wrappers. They are editable, double-sided, colour A4 printables: please see the preview images above to get a sense of their quality. Simply print them off and give them to students before they take practice exam papers/sections: they should complete one side before the assessment and one side once they have finished.
They are suitable for teachers of any subject that leads to formal assessment (i.e. any secondary exam subject) and perfect for students aged 14-18.
Download them today to systematically enhance your approach to assessment whilst fostering metacognition and self-regulated learning behaviours.
