This interactive Powerpoint Show engages learners in deep philosophical reflection about the nature of learning, how to learn effectively, and how to boost learning power. It helps to nurture philosophical thinking skills in relation to metacognition and self-regulated learning.
The session is designed such that teachers have a number of starter, main, plenary, assessment and closing activities to choose from. This means it is re-useable, adaptable, and flexible. Teachers navigate the different activities using an in-built menu system: the resource requires no planning or preparation and can be used by teachers of all subjects working with students aged 8-18.
The session seeks to nurture metacognitive knowledge through philosophical discussions, debates and reflection. It also introduces key-concepts for reflective learning such as 'metacogntion', 'growth mindset', and 'self-regulated learning'.
As with all our resources, the overriding goal of this resource is to create more reflective and independent learners who are more capable of engaging in metacognition and self-regulated learning. The resource cultivates metacognitive awareness whilst leading students to metacognitive knowledge.
